I have more photos than those posted, too. If I can steal the time this weekend, I'll put them all together into a PDF eBook along with your bios and such. If/when I have that kind of thing, I'll announce here and post link on the Festival page, too.

  • Make these your original artworks, no magazine collage.
  • Feel free to do drawings, paintings, prints, collage, scrapbook style, encaustic, handcarved stamps, photography, digital art, fabric art, whatever medium you wish.
  • Along with your 20 artworks, send self-addressed label + $5 (either cash or equivalent in stamps). Do not adhere label or stamps to return mailer! Change in postage: I'm mailing back in 12x12x3 inch boxes so flat and dimensional pieces will be delivered safely!!

  • I am one of the collaborators on this, so my set will be kept and shown in exhibit detailed further down in this post.

EXHIBIT: Cafe Luna Vashon will feature our Day of the Dead show in October 2010.

Each of the 20 artists collaborating in the swap above will be featured in that show. Since I am one of the 20, I'll have a full set from the swap. All those pieces will be shown at the Cafe for the entire month. Your piece will either be "not for sale" OR if you want me to sell your piece, the proceeds will go to the Vashon Food Bank. I will be making a "Contributing Artists" program for the opening night event, so please email me kara [at] motherhenna.com with your artist statement, a short bio, and link to your blog!

Welcome, welcome, Jess & Ines! I'll add your names and links in just a moment.

Jess, it is totally fine with me that you are in the UK. I would say just be aware of the extra time it will take thru the post to get to me -- and once you see how much it is to post the package here to me, then if you would include an equal amount for return postage, that would be awesome.

So honored to have you both join us!

BlueBirdSinging & MayasDaddy, welcome and we're honored to have you participate in this collaboration! I'll add your names/links to the participant list in just a moment. Since you say it will be a "joint effort" -- I'm going to list you as ONE participant, assuming you are together making 20 pieces -- not making 20 pieces each. If that is not correct, just let me know...
Thanks so much!

Kara aka Mother Henna said...

Hi Amber and everyone --
Yes, please do send all 20 pieces afterall... we have one more person I know is coming on board which will be 19 -- and I'm keeping the call open thru the weekend, and just have a feeling we'll get the 20th person.

I ask that you email me with your bio and info about the art -- BUT ALSO put a note in with your physical art to say you emailed, so that I remember to connect the two!!

And feel free to post on your blog now. I won't have the Mister Linky for blog festival online till October 31st though -- so be sure to come back that day and add your permalink there, too.

I don't know if Sooze had molds still and how she is sharing -- long distance via post OR just folks who can get to her studio -- but write to her and ask: sooze@forest.net

Thanks and can't wait to see your art!!

Hi Kara,

mine went in the post yesterday so hopefully it will be with you after the weekend. There was a delay because I hit the bank to late for the foreign exchange (small town... don't ask) so I had to wait until the next morning to get the US Dollars to enclose.

I'll email you the bio/letter i enclosed asap.

Thanks for all this, I loved it, too.

Also, many folks have not emailed me with your bio/art info -- if you want to share that kind of thing. Feel free to do so!

That said, you all are welcome to post photos now if you like. I just won't have the Mister Linky posted here on my blog till Oct 31 for you to do a Linky connect for fest. hi Kara-
i realize ( hmmm... quite belatedly perhaps...) that nothing i have emailed in the last week or so has gone out to the world. at least i think not. so.
i am using someone elses eccount right now while up in darkest Canada. will be back to home by thursday--but maybe that's too late for info on xchange items? not much to say-they are little wallet shrines made mostly of found/left over/used or vintage stuff. there s a place in each one for people to put a photo of someone they are missing. no biog to speak of---life is just rolling along in unexpected ways into an unfurling of pleasurable chaos.
sending you giant thanks (merci!) and love.
will have a treat for you upon my return.
{dont get too excited}
cheers

Kara aka Mother Henna said...

Hey Sooze!! Thanks much for the info -- never too late at all -- I totally flipped out when I opened your box! I loooooooove them.

I'm waiting on a couple other people's items still. Will have box of goodies here for you when you return... maybe we can meet up and exchange? I'll get back in touch when I actually have everything and box is ready...

Oops, just read Ines' comment - I posted some pics of mine already! Sorry if I shouldn't have!

Kara, I sent some money but please let me know if it is not enough because I wasn't too sure on international postage/ exchange rates.

Excited to see everyone's work!

Love Jess xx

Kara aka Mother Henna said...

Jess, it's totally fine if you posted photos already ... please link back here now if you want, but also stop back on Halloween day to add your permalink to Mister Linky for the blog festival that day, too. It's all good. Will let you know about postage ... thanks! k-

Kara aka Mother Henna said...

Hi everyone!

We've got three folks I'm hoping to get pieces from soon.

One sent pieces from Canada Oct 6th -- I think post is just taking forever to get them here.

Second I heard from needs to finish four more pieces, and I've asked for firm delivery date -- waiting to hear back.

Third I've not heard from at all. Hoping to hear from her OR if not, then we'll do swap and drop that last spot.

If I drop the last spot, I will keep the extra set from everyone if that's okay?!! One set will be mine since I'm part of the swap. The extra set would then be the one to go into the 2010 exhibit -- and if they sell, proceeds would go to Vashon Food Bank. That way we can do sales for fundraiser, but I wouldn't have to give up my set :) If that sounds fair to you all??

Thanks much -- please post back here with your comments or email me or send comments to my FB page....

That sounds like a good plan Kara. Looking forward to seeing everyones work! x

Kara aka Mother Henna said...

Hey Luvs!!!

So we are really really close to being able to post boxes back to all of you!

Two packets have already been posted -- the delivery on post office is just taking for-ev-er for some reason. But since they've already posted, I'd like to wait and be able to send you all everything at once.

We did have one person drop as she's having a rough patch at the moment -- please everyone send love and supportive vibes to Gabi so she knows we are thinking of her and she doesn't need to feel badly about dropping from swap! Gabi, as I mentioned, since you have a few of the pieces done already anyway, if/when it feels right, please know you are welcome to send me the best one or two you have and I'll include them in 2010 exhibit!!

And FYI for everyone: I am going to keep the second extra set of pieces. One I will keep since I'm part of swap. The second I will put in the exhibit. If they sell in exhibit, proceeds will be donated to Vashon Food Bank.

Thank you thank you everyone!!!! As always feel free to comment back here, email me, or leave me comment on FB or DM me on Twitter.
